ArtsProfessional

ArtsProfessional is the new media partner of Play's the Thing. Committed to sharing information, experiences and good practice across all art forms and types of arts activity, the magazine and online resource is a meeting point for people in the arts who share the same priorities and values.

The magazine's readers and writers are diverse, coming from all sectors, specialisms and regions of the arts. It covers material that will be of interest to those who bring the benefits and pleasures of the arts to the wider community.

When it comes to staying in touch with the arts sector, there's never been a better source of news, features and advice.

ArtsProfessional Managing Editor and company director, Liz Hill said: “We are delighted to be associated with Play’s the Thing. The theme of the conference is so relevant to our readership that it is important for us to do justice to this very important and sometimes under-represented area of arts work.”

The partnership is being fronted by ArtsProfessional intern, Frances Richens. ArtsProfessional plan to produce content that explores the partners' shared interest in the use of the arts for social inclusion and general wellbeing. The collaboration should prove to be mutually beneficial; extending the audience of ArtsProfessional in the Social Arts sector and strengthening the Play’s the Thing network.

One of the first projects to be undertaken in the partnerhip will be a video documentary featuring highlights from the conference and an interview with Pat Kane.

The Journal of Modern Wisdom

For public thinkers and the thinking public...

The Journal of Modern Wisdom is a collection of writings from leading public thinkers aiming to discover new ways of achieving enduring virtues and pleasures.

The bewildering modern world is long-overdue a renewal of humanity's wiser values; enrichments such as homeliness, decency, creativity, kindness, earnestness, and the appreciation of the simpler things in life. You won't find sensationalist rantings, divisive ideologies, neurotic prophecies, nihilistic philosophies or ironic provocations in the Journal of Modern Wisdom. Just good sense - common, but refracted through the prism of expertise - from leading figures around the world.

Contributors to the inaugural volume include economist Professor Lord Layard, independent scholar Judith Rich Harris, essayist Theodore Dalrymple, philosopher Professor David Cooper, design guru Stephen Bayley, psychologist Scott Barry Kaufman, psychiatrist Neel Burton, artist Aengus Dewar, author Paul Outhwaite, poet Rebecca Watts, social-entrepeneur Daniel James Paterson and artist Thais Beltrame, whose haunting and beautiful works can be enjoyed throughout this unique volume.

In a series of accessibly-written but deeply-considered essays, the journal addresses topics as diverse as food, parenting, depression, manufacturing, social deviance, painting and the comedy of Bill Hicks. Each aims to achieve that balance between knowledge and aspiration - that practical awareness - which is characteristic of the exercise of wisdom throughout the ages.

For public thinkers and the thinking public, the Journal of Modern Wisdom is available now.
